Second Opinion
Our History
With decreasing reimbursement, the radiologists workday has become busier than ever. Many radiologists are reading too fast and too many cases per day.
The current pressures on our health-care system are negatively affecting the quality of the health-care we receive. These forces are putting patients at risk of having an important diagnosis or incidental finding missed on the initial interpretation of their imaging exams. These factors created the need for our valuable services.
COMPRAD gives patients, attorneys and law firms direct access to highly qualified radiologists.
Our diverse team of expert radiologists have extensive experience in healthcare and medicolegal cases.
A second opinion is imperative to making the right decisions
In the University of Michigan study1, researchers examined the effect of second opinions on patient care . They concluded that "second opinions yielded treatment changes for half of patients". This approach resulted in changed treatment recommendations for 52 percent of the patients whose records were reviewed in this study.
Other independent studies put overall radiology accuracy rates somewhere between 97%2 and 98.9%3.
The difference between these rates and a 100% rate may seem small until you consider the impact on patient care.
In fact, an improvement of 3% in a single year would many times mean tens of thousands of fewer misdiagnosed patients per year for a single large hospital.
Don't subject yourself to a misdiagnosis. For a reasonable cost, you can have the peace of mind that a second opinion offers from an expert in the field of radiology.
RADIOLOGICAL SERVICES FOR THE LEGAL INDUSTRY
At COMPRAD, we want to ensure that your medicolegal cases are properly, ethically and accurately evaluated.
To meet the needs of the legal and insurance industry, COMPRAD offers the option of a detailed Independent Radiology Exam Review. By choosing this option, attorneys will have the opportunity for a 30 minute phone consultation with the radiologist reviewing the case. The radiologist will answer any medicolegal questions regarding the case, be able to comment on additional details including the standard of care, the quality of the study and provide literature references pertaining to the findings of the case. A written report regarding the findings of the case, a copy of the physician's CV and the physician's fee schedule will then be submitted to the attorney requesting the review.
This is a priceless screening tool for law firms. Now, attorneys can focus their energy and time on the cases that actually warrant it.

Types of Radiology Scans

X-ray
An X-ray is a test that uses small doses of radiation to produce a picture of the inside of the body. Images are produced by sending a beam of x-rays (high energy electromagnetic radiation) through the body. Different tissues in the body have different densities and deflect x-rays differently. The resulting image can be captured either on photographic film or digitally. Typically, bones are well-seen with x-ray imaging.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic technique which provides pictures of organs and structures inside the body. It works like the sonar used by submarines, bouncing sound waves off an object and using a computer to interpret the sound returned. The interpretation of an ultrasound is very dependent upon body structure, the amount of body fat, and the skill of the operator. Ultrasonography does not involve the use of radiation.
CT Scan
CT stands for computed tomography. This is a sophisticated diagnostic imaging procedure that uses a computer and x-rays to produce a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body taken from different angles. This technique is also sometimes called computerized tomography and computerized axial tomography (CAT) scanning. Modern CT scanners are able to generate three-dimensional images of the body and internal organs from a large series of two-dimensional images. Sometimes, injection of contrast medium ("dye") is done during the scan to enhance the image quality and assist with diagnosis.
MRI Scan
stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. This is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses a combination of a large powerful magnet, radiofrequencies, and a computer to produce very detailed images of the organs and structures inside the body. This technique does not involve the use of radiation. Sometimes, injection of contrast medium ("dye") is done during the scan to enhance the image quality and assist with diagnosis.
PET Scan
stands for Positron Emission Tomography. This is a type of imaging that is typically used to help distinguish cancer from benign (non-cancerous) tissue, and assess the response of cancer to treatment. The patient is injected with a tiny amount of radioactive material that is combined with sugar. The test works on the principle that tumours metabolise (use up) more sugar than normal tissue.
Mammography
Mammography is the process of using low-energy-X-rays to examine the human breast and is used as a diagnostic and a screening tool. The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer, typically through detection of characteristic masses and/or microcalcifications. Mammography is believed to reduce mortality from breast cancer. Remaining aware of breast changes and physician examination are considered essential parts of regular breast care.
